Salento Igp
The Salento IGT covers wines produced in the provinces of Brindisi, Taranto and Lecce in southern Puglia. This is a very warm region known for its bold and spicy reds made from such varieties as Negroamaro and Primitivo. Plantings are high density, with large yields, so production is high, yet the wines retain a lot of body and character. There are also white, rosé and sparkling wines made under the Salento IGT designation; white varieties include southern Italian varieties such as Fiano, as well as international ones such as Chardonnay.
