Pipers River
Pipers River is Tasmania's most northerly wine region, situated in the hills to the north of the island's second-largest town, Launceston, and to the northeast of the Tamar Valley. This is a cool climate with intense sunshine and the combination of the two provides for a long growing season.
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines made from the two utterly dominate production and this area is becoming a hotbed of international investment and exploration with regard to sparkling wines. Jansz "Methode Tasmanoise," stemming from an initial investment by none other than Louis Roederer, is leading the way in this regard.
