Moldova
Moldova, located between Romania and Ukraine. For much of the 19th and 20th century, wine from Moldova was sent to Russia for use by the elite. The climate is moderate, despite cold winters and hot summers, with breezes from the Black Sea and winds from the Transylvanian Alps helping growing conditions. There are excellent wines made in Moldova, from international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and even Riesling. Vineyards are primarily on hillsides and are superbly sited for ideal sun exposure as well as limited yields.
