The historical region of Kartli lies in the east of Georgia and produces red, white, and European style sparkling wine. Major grapes include Chinuri, Gori Mtsvane, Budeshuri, Tavkveri, Shavkapito, and Saperavi, as well as European grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Aligote, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Merlot.
