Tales of the Cocktail is an annual conference attended by bartenders, distributors, brand ambassadors, marketers, writers, journalists, cocktail enthusiasts, tasters and taste-makers. Every year, the spirits industry descends upon New Orleans for a week of seminars, pop-ups, award ceremonies, and celebratory dinners to meet the next top bartenders, learn the newest cocktail techniques, preview new products and brush shoulders with liquor industry royalty.

Trade education and professional development are cornerstones of the Tales of the Cocktail experience. Carpano put on a fantastically informative seminar about Italian liqueurs, their unique origins, flavors and applications. We got to draw our own flavor map of the ingredients used and of course, we had to give their 95-point rated Antica Formula one more expert taste—we're professionals after all.

Networking is a huge part of the Tales experience as well. We saw many friends, including some of our esteemed spirits judges, 2014 World Class Champion Bartender Charles Joly and Michael Miller, owner of America's most recognized whiskey bar, Delilahs Chicago. Both were involved in leading seminars and events throughout the week.

Spirits industry heavyweight Diageo pulled out all the stops with their 'Blended Whisky Through Time' seminar: A vertical tasting of a several of their iconic blended Scotch whisky brands going back to the 1950's. Although there were differences for sure, it's amazing how consistent they were flavor-wise, in particular Johnnie Walker Black.
