Author: Julia Gordon
There’s just enough summer left to enjoy a few more bright, citrusy cocktails, and we assembled a panel of top tier daiquiri palates to find the best rums to make the most of the waning sipping season.

Sliding into the fourth place slot in our daiquiri competition is Members Mark Silver Rum. Our panelists found that the rum stands 'front and center' in the cocktail, providing a 'solid, classic' foundation that leads to a 'clean and bright' delight. This rum's dry, crisp mouthfeel coupled with its tendrils of coconut notes would, in our opinion, also double your cocktail repertoire in a tasty mojito; and since it comes in a 1.75 liter bottle, you'll have plenty to experiment with and enjoy!

Who says classic cocktails can only have classic ingredients? Our sippers loved the 'big pineapple flavor' that Don Q Pina Rum brought to their daiquiri. Though it is flavored, they appreciated that it wasn't 'too sweet' and instead found it to be 'concentrated, flavorful, and fun.' Aside from the pineapple notes, this rum shone 'wonderful' Meyer lemon and tangerine notes through the cocktail. We recommend grabbing your nearest limes and a little ice to shake up this 'vacation' ASAP. Bonus: its creamy coconut notes will set you on the right path for a pina colada.

This classic cocktail rum had our panelists saying 'love' on the first sip. Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum lent its 'oaky' but 'not overpowering' notes to the daiquiri's backbone, which was then bolstered by its 'notes of stone fruit' and a 'hint of spice.' Chewy, toasty flavors created a sophisticated daiquiri that our pros wanted to have 'several' of, and since none of us are going anywhere anytime soon, we approve of that plan!

The unanimous winner in our daiquiri tasting was the Don Q 2009 Signature Release Single Batch. This 'yummy, funky' rum made a 'delicious treat' of a daiquiri and had our tasters declaring: 'This is what we want out of a daiq.' The 'apricots and peaches' on the palate create a well-balanced drink to be sure, and if you can hold onto this bottle into cooler weather, we bet this stunner will shine in a rum manhattan as well!
