Reading user reviews for wine, beer or spirits lets us post reactions or share enjoyment of with a brand. However, any person who purchases that brand is financially and emotionally tied to it and therefore judgment is significantly clouded. Professional, third party reviews have strict editorial standards and do not accept remuneration for positive feedback. A professional is therefore bound by their integrity and approaches reviews of brands much differently. In fact at Tastings.com, all judges taste the samples, blind. Each sample is given one indicator, for example with wine, the judges know if it is a wine from Rhone, France or Napa, California. For beer, the judges are given the style for instance Kolsch or Amber Ale. And for spirits, judges know the distillate category such as Rum or Vodka. The methodology is meant to compare each sample to the best example of its type to find how viable the product is. Yet, it is important to begin with a benchmark example, which our judges learn through rigorous industry experience, training and certification.

It's an influential network everyone carries in his or her pocket. But, is it enough? The Wine Market Council Study detailed the behavior of US wine drinkers in a high frequency tracking study in November 2014. Over 56% of Millennials, a group that makes up 70 million people in the US, just shy of the 77 million of baby boomers, rate reviews "extremely" or "very" important in purchasing decisions of wine. http://winemarketcouncil.com/research.
