The republic of Armenia is one of the oldest wine producing territories in the world, documents show that vines were planted here more than 6000 years ago. Today, there are many styles of wine produced in Armenia, from dry white and red to semidry reds as well as fruit wines made from apricot and pomegranate. The best dry reds are made from the Areni grape and have more depth of fruit than most; these pair well with stews and roasted meats as well as hard cheeses such as Emmenthal and Parmesan. Most of Armenia's wines are value priced and meant for early consumption.
