Medium ruby color. Aromas and flavors of baked black plum, black cherry, blackberry jam, and vanilla with a soft, tart, dry light-to-medium body and a polished, medium finish with overtones of blood orange, tart strawberry, fresh persimmon, and snap pea with fine tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. A juicy Red Blend bursting with dark fruit flavors.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.
