Arak, also known as Araq, is a spirit of Levantine origin ypically made from grapes and aniseed that can be distilled in a variety of methods depending on where it is being produced. Some Arak variations can contain plums, figs, dates, sugar and molasses, and the still types can vary as well (stainless steer, copper, different shapes). Arak has a high alcohol content, usually between 40-60%, so it is most often diluted with water and ice, causing it to turn a distinctive milk-white color.
