Holland: Land of Heineken and Windmills Two beers sum up the Dutch brewing industry for the U.S. consumer: Heineken and Amstel. These two beers dominate the Dutch market and are similar in terms of their pale lager style. Both and made by the Heineken brewing conglomerate, the third-largest brewer of beer in the world after Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller. Despite being a beer-drinking nation, Holland lacks the historic richness of brewing culture that has characterized its Belgian neighbor. However, Holland has seen some progress in recent decades. There are now more than 130 independent craft brewers in the country, though none have an export presence of note in the United States. Additionally, Holland is host to one of four Trappist breweries located outside of Belgium. Trappistenbiet-brouweij de Schappskooi produces four beers under La Trappe and Koningshoeven labels.
