Dusty ruby color. Aromas of blistered cherries, sweet pickled beets, and marjoram with a supple, vibrant, dry medium body and an even, medium-length tangy raspberries and roasted vegetables finish with a suggestion of oak flavor. A rustic Sangiovese with big acid; a simple red to enliven any Italian meal.

Regional Sangiovese

Sangiovese is the most widely planted red variety in Italy and while it is most famously associated with the region of Tuscany, it is a component in wines form several other regions. These include Marche, where Sangiovese is mandatory in two reds, Rosso Piceno and Rosso Conero, as well as Umbria, where Montefalco Rosso is produced primarily from Sangiovese, as is Torgiano Rubesco Riserva.

Sangiovese is also an important component in Emilia-Romanga reds called Sangiovese di Romagna. As with most versions of Sangiovese, these wines have moderate tannins, fresh cherry fruit and tart acidity. Pair them with pork, veal and pastas with marinara or bolognese sauces.
