Bordeaux Sauternes - Barsac
Serve in a Copita
About
Bordeaux Sauternes - Barsac
Sauternes is a precious dessert wine produced in the greater Bordeaux region of France, and in this case the Barsac commune. Mainly consisting of Semillon grapes, with a hint of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle added to the blend, Sauternes is produced by allowing the Botrytis cinerea fungus (also known as "noble rot") to desiccate the grapes and concentrate the prized sugars within. Due to the effects of the rot, yields are low which makes the production price of Sauternes high and the retail price even higher, but the resulting rich and viscous wine is worth its weight in gold.
