The 2009 World Value Wine Challenge Posted: October 8, 2009 By Jerald O’Kennard Well another year has gone by since our last World Value Wine Challenge for wines $20 and under and although its been a painful year for most, it’s been a good year for those looking for value wines. The economy has put the brakes on wine sales of bottles over $20 and forced many reserved and allocated wines to take significant price cuts. Fortunately for those on a budget, the under $20 categories are ripe with good tasting wines. This year we tasted through over five hundred to find the best value red, white, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines for your seasonal purchases. And for the first time since we started this competition earlier this decade, some of the highest scoring wines were not just under $20 and $15, but under $10! Hopefully, this will be a continuing trend, even after the market gets back on track...
