Brown brick red color. Aromas and flavors of honeycomb, soy and balsamic, pomegranate molasses, and mud with a soft, tangy, fruity medium body and a silky, appealing, breezy finish with nuances of honeyed berries, raisins and figs, tea leaves, pickled beets and cucumbers, and chocolate mint with leafy, woody tannins and moderate oak flavor. An interesting, spicy, savory and mature red for the table.

Bulgarian reds by and large are produced from international varieties; the leading ones are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir; many of the best examples are from the Thracian Valley in the middle of the country.

Most reds are mono-varietal, although there are some Bordeaux blends as well; prices are under $20 for most offerings. Medium-bodied with attractive aromas of black cherry and berry fruit with moderate tannins and light spice and tobacco notes, these are easy-drinking wines meant for early consumption with lighter red meats, cheeses and pastas.
