Medium dusty ruby color. Toasty, inviting aromas and flavors of graphite cedar pencil shavings, berry tart crust, herb roasted carrots, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes, and artisan coffee with borscht with a silky, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, interesting, medium-long finish conveying accents of craisin, spiced tomato, praline, and minerals with light oak flavor. A superbly balanced and highly polished gem from Bulgaria’s Thracian Valley glistening with complex fruity and savory facets.

Bulgarian reds by and large are produced from international varieties; the leading ones are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir; many of the best examples are from the Thracian Valley in the middle of the country.

Most reds are mono-varietal, although there are some Bordeaux blends as well; prices are under $20 for most offerings. Medium-bodied with attractive aromas of black cherry and berry fruit with moderate tannins and light spice and tobacco notes, these are easy-drinking wines meant for early consumption with lighter red meats, cheeses and pastas.
