Dark ruby color. Interesting aromas and flavors of banana coconut keffir, black raspberry pie, and hint of apple balsamic with a supple, crisp, fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, interesting, medium-length finish with shades of spicy berry compote, banana chip, and dusty bark. A nicely fruity and tannic Bulgarian wine that will work well at the meat lover’s table; reminiscent of zinfandel.

Bulgarian reds by and large are produced from international varieties; the leading ones are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir; many of the best examples are from the Thracian Valley in the middle of the country.

Most reds are mono-varietal, although there are some Bordeaux blends as well; prices are under $20 for most offerings. Medium-bodied with attractive aromas of black cherry and berry fruit with moderate tannins and light spice and tobacco notes, these are easy-drinking wines meant for early consumption with lighter red meats, cheeses and pastas.
