Wine: Best Producers: Beaujolais

Beaujolais should need very little introduction. Made in the Beaujolais hills just north of Lyon, Beaujolais is one of France's best known wines. Light, delicate, fruity, and crisp, it is often described as the ultimate café wine. Beaujolais nouveau--the first wine of the new vintage, released the third Thursday of November in the same year of the harvest--continually affirms this reputation. Beaujolais can, however, be rather more serious in the hands of some of the smaller estate producers. Either way, it is never difficult to drink. Made from the low-tannin, high-acid gamay grape, it is almost always best drunk within a year or two of the vintage.
