92 • Magito 2005 Highlands Cabernet Blend, Sonoma County $17. Best Buy.
Deep, saturated ruby-purple hue. Pure, minerally blackberry aromas have a floral quality and a modest oak influence. A firm entry leads a weighty, full-bodied palate with grippy tannins and a minty undertone. Bright acidity lends a sense of purity to the lengthy finish. Admirably restrained winemaking. Very "Sonoma" fruit. Drinking well now. (tasted on Jan-03-2007)
86 • Magito 2005 Panorama Vineyards, Zinfandel, California $18.
Deep ruby garnet color. Somewhat reserved aromas of vanilla fudge, smoky cedar, and blackberry pie a la mode. a very supple and round entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body of dark berries, cedar, earth, and black pepper. Finishes with a long, tangy berry, cocoa-dusted citrus peel, and spice fade. A nicely framed, vibrant, and rather elegant Zin to pair with roasted vegetables and dark meat turkey. (tasted on Jun-14-2007)
85 • Magito 2006 River Trace, Sauvignon Blanc, North Coast.
Pale straw hue. Slightly herbaceous, floral stone fruit nose. A crisp entry leads a glycerous, full-bodied palate with prominent fruit flavors and a firm edge of acidity. Clean, pithy finish. Drink now. (tasted on Feb-10-2007)
84 • Magito 2005 Panorama, Zinfandel, California $17.
Deep purple black color. Fragrant berry, mint and spice aromas. A round, juicy entry leads to a dryish medium-full body of tart, baked red berries and plums with vanillin and spice. Finishes with a powdery tannin fade. (tasted on Jan-15-2007)
