93 • Sawyer Cellars 2007 Bradford Meritage, Rutherford, Napa Valley $44. Cellar Selection.
Deep garnet color. Dense aromas of dried currant, buttery melted chocolate, and beet chutney with a round, satiny fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body and a long, smooth, earthy mineral accented finish with superfine tannins. An excellent, elegant wine that will pair beautifully with a filet mignon now or save for a few years. (tasted on Feb-21-2011)
91 • Hannah Nicole 2007 Meritage, Contra Costa County $32.
Aromas of freshly sliced apple, black raspberry tart, vanilla custard, and a hint of aloe with a supple, silky dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with a tangy, cranberry, pencil shaving and nut brittle finish with fine powdery tannins. A nice appetizing red that will shine with spicy flank steak dishes. (tasted on Feb-21-2011)
