94 • Tatsuriki "Kurohige" Special Junmai Sake $20/720ml.
Pure platinum color. Green apple, kiwi, meringue, almond, and yeasty pastry dough aromas follow through on a soft, silky entry to a dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body with sweet cream, anise, and radish notes on the long, smooth and flavorful finish fade. Very nicely styled; pair with the finest spicy sushi rolls. (tasted on Dec-16-2008)

Pale straw color. Waxy rice candy wrapper, grainy dough, honey, and peppered pear chutney aromas follow through on a round, supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with lovely notes of melon, apple, and white toffee. Finishes crisply with graceful, elegant fade. (tasted on Dec-11-2008)

Nickel with a faint straw cast. Bright aromas of crushed apples and pears, pineapple, and honeyed fennel follow through on a soft, supple entry to a fruity-yet-dry light-to-medium body with a mineral, pepper dust and anise cookie accented fade. Pair with tempura. (tasted on Dec-16-2008)

Silver with a straw cast. Sweet an sour aromas reminiscent of lavender soap, yeasty lemon pastry dough, and powdered honey follow through on a soft, silky entry to a dryish light body with brown apple, floral bath oil, and nut oil notes. Finishes with a crisp, pear, lemon, honey toasted nut, dried lavender and thyme fade. (tasted on Dec-11-2008)

Platinum color with a very faint straw cast. Rich aromas of coconut cream, toasted meringue, and delicate rice candy follow through on a round, supple entry to a fruity-yet-dry medium-to-full body with melon and spicy plum nut chutney notes. Finishes with a crisp, fruity pear salt water taffy accented fade. (tasted on Dec-11-2008)

Tarnished silver color. Bright aromas of green apple skin, aniseed, and nuts follow through on a soft, graceful entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with a touch of salt water taffy and a mellow balance of flavor. Finishes with an earthy apple and walnut fade. (tasted on Dec-16-2008)

Aromas of powdered milk, talc, and golden raisin box display a whiff of nail polish remover and follow through on a brisk, round entry to a dryish medium body with vanilla salt water taffy, mealy pear, and bamboo shoot notes.
