88 • Chilensis 2008 Reserva, Chardonnay, Maule Valley $12. Best Buy.
Brilliant yellow-straw hue. Subdued, minerally pear aromas have a subtle, high-toned, minty-herbaceous accent. A lush entry leads a rounded, moderately full-bodied palate with a supple, creamy texture. Acidity supports the drying minerally finish. A stylish unoaked Chard to drink with seafood--lobster and crab in particular. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
84 • Espiritu de Chile 2008 Chardonnay, Central Valley $10.
Brilliant yellow-straw hue. Fresh, pure mineral and pear nose. A crisp entry leads a clean, zesty, medium-bodied palate with racy acidity. A racy, unoaked Chardonnay to drink as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to shellfish. (tasted on Oct-06-2009)
