89 • Robert Hunter 2000 Brut De Noirs Extended Tirage, Sonoma Valley $45.
Deep old gold color with fading bubbles. Aromas of fig and date chutney, caramelized pear, and honeyed raisin toast with a hint of rubber sap follow through on a round entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body with lemon tart, sour cherry, and spicy apple pie crust notes. Finishes with a long, honeyed nut and spice fade. A tasty oak aged sparkler. (tasted on Jun-18-2009)
88 • Gruet NV Blanc De Noirs, New Mexico $14.99. Best Buy.
Rich golden color. Mild trail-mix like aromas of dried fruits and nuts with a touch of honey follow through on a bright entry to a fruity-yet-dry medium body with peach cobbler, melon rind, and lime peel notes. Finishes with a tangy, pewter, praline, and pepper spice accented fade. (tasted on Jun-18-2009)
84 • Biltmore Estate NV Blanc de Noir, American $24.99.
Salmon silver color. Aromas of white strawberry, glue, and spicy lemon tart follow through on crisp entry to a dryish medium body with tart lime peel and mineral dust notes. (tasted on Jun-18-2009)
