86 • Marquee 2008 Chardonnay, Yarra Valley $14.99. Best Buy.
Pale silvery yellow color. Aromas of roasted nuts, melon, and cream are faint and follow through on a brisk entry to a dryish light body apple core and peach pit notes. Finishes with a crisp, powdery tannin finish. (tasted on Mar-08-2010)
85 • TLC 2008 Chardonnay, Limestone Coast $15.99.
Pale straw yellow color. Interesting herbal accented aromas of tree bark, coriander, and balloon over a layer of fruit stripe gum like apple, melon and ruby grapefruit notes. Aromas follow through on a juicy entry to a dry-yet-fruity, sweet-and-sour medium body with menthol and mint accents and tangy acidity. Finishes with crisp, lively fade. Lots of character here. (tasted on Mar-08-2010)
84 • Foxhorn Vineyards NV Chardonnay, South-Eastern Australia $8/1.5L.
Golden color. Aromas of baked pear drizzled with honey and ripe persimmon follow through on a soft entry to a dryish light-to-medium body with shy acidity and praline and tangy apple skin and cider notes in the finish. (tasted on Mar-08-2010)
84 • Tapestry 2007 Chardonnay, McLaren Vale $14.99.
Aromas of roasted pecan, baked apple, sourdough bread, and creamy lemon yogurt follow through on a round, soft entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with a zesty citrus spritz note. Finishes with a tart, mouthwatering fade. An appetizing food wine. (tasted on Mar-08-2010)
