95 • Rogue Ales 2008 Imperial Porter.
Deep opaque brown color. Aromas of baker's chocolate, coffee, and burnt pumpernickel toast follow through on a supple entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with molasses and brown butter notes. Finishes with a lovely dark roasted nut and grain fade. A very nicely balanced imperial porter that sets the bar for the style. (tasted on Mar-12-2009)
92 • Rogue Ales 2008 Imperial Porter.
Brown black color with a rocky reddish tan head. Dark chocolate, roasted nut, creamy and melon aromas follow through on rich, supple entry to a dryish medium-full body with delicious dark nut toast notes and a long, tart, kumquat, cocoa, and pepper fade with vibrant astringency. A delicious and food friendly porter to serve with charred steaks. (tasted on Jan-16-2009)
91 • Bastone Brewery Maximus.
Deep reddish brown color with a wispy taupe head. Interesting aromas of molasses, coffee, pork rind, dried black cherry, and bread pudding follow through of a round, velvety entry to a fruity-yet-dry full body with dried currant, maple syrup, and roasted nut notes. Finishes with a long molasses and licorice fade. A tasty rich and balanced strong ale. (tasted on Feb-02-2009)
90 • The Lion Brewery Stegmaier Holiday Warmer.
Deep amber copper color. Spicy cinnamon raisin toast and peach pie crust aromas. follow through on a velvety, frothy entry to a fruity medium-full body with excellent depth, balance, and a refreshing mineral, brown sugar, peppercorn, and candied yam fade. Nice. (tasted on Feb-11-2009)
89 • Otro Mundo Brewing Red Ale.
Slightly hazy amber color. Aromas of toasted grains and caramelized macadamia nuts, floral honey and peach follow through on a soft, frothy entry to an off-dry full body with candy corn, sweet citrus and apricot compote notes and a legume and collard green note on the pepper jelly on toast finish. (tasted on Feb-11-2009)
