Owen & Engine
Beer, Cider Judge
For over 15 years, Elliott has worked in the beverage/hospitality industry doing everything from dishwashing and answering phones to cooking and serving to bartending and managing. He is currently the Beverage Director at the popular Owen and Engine in Chicago, and values his interactions with customers and guests greatly. "I love making people happy, and showing them to a new experience," he says. "I especially love knowing when my guests have learned something new from me."
Elliott was among the first 43 people to become a Certified Cicerone and aims to be among the first 10 Master Cicerones by the end of the year. Elliott has serves as a panelist with BTI/Tastings.com since 2012, specializing in beer. During tastings, he evaluates beers based on style first--assessing the beer in terms of the style category it is entered into--and personal preference second. He believes BTI/Tastings.com's truly blind tasting methodology leads to more accurate scoring. "The scores are always true to the liquid," he says.
Elliott's upcoming projects are top secret these days, according to him, though he insists the reveal will be well worth the wait.
